What to do in st. Simon’s island with a toddler and a baby

My husband has family that lives in South Georgia so we used this opportunity to take a day trip to the beautiful island of St. Simons. Here is how we got the most out of our trip to St. Simons Island with kids.

It was about a 45 minute drive from the house we were staying at, so when we first got to the downtown area we knew we needed to let the kids stretch their legs. Parking is free downtown which is nice but I would suggest getting there early as the parking lots and spaces filled up quickly.

There is a great playground right downtown on the water where we let the kids swing and run around. There are actually two beside each other, one seeming to be for older kids and the other for smaller. Our kids enjoyed going back and forth.

Down a little further there is Neptune Fun Zone pool that offers a large pool, water slides, and more. We went in September and this area closes on Labor Day so we just missed it.

If you have older kids that want to fish, or even enjoy watching other people fish, then walking the St. Simons Pier is a must. The pier offers amazing views where sometimes you can even catch sight of whales!

st. Simons lighthouse and museum

If you feel up to taking some kids up stairs then you have to enter the St. Simons lighthouse. The lighthouse has so much history and kids 5 and under are free. There is a museum that is attached as well as a gift shop at the bottom.

public beach accesses in st. simons

If you are looking to stay in St. Simons and have time for lounging on the beach, there are tons of options. Public beach accesses line the coast and offer great sand and for the most part calm waters. East Beach is the largest and most popular. If staying is your plan, Ocean Inn and Suites is in an ideal location.

If you are looking to eat or shop, St. Simons Pier Village is where to go. Here you can find cafe’s, restaurants, and lots of local shops.

We got iced coffees from Palm Coast Coffee that was a short walk up the street. The coffee was really good and I highly recommend! The food looked really good too!

For lunch we ate at Barbara Jean’s Restaurant and Bar. This restaurant is a southern style place that offers healthy sized portions. It was very family friendly and the service was great. There are many other options for restaurants but since it was a quick trip, we spent more time trying to see as much as possible.
